Learn more about Repparfjord
Repparfjord (Riehpovuotna) is a national salmon fjord in West Finnmark, surrounded by Sámi reindeer pastures. The company Nussir ASA, now owned by the Canadian Blue Moon Metals, plans to open a copper mine in the mountains above it and to dump the mine waste into the fjord. Since the plans were first made public, Sámi reindeer herders, fishers, environmental organisations and young activists have opposed them. The sources below are ordered to take you from a first introduction, through the evidence and history, to the ways you can follow and join the struggle.
Start with Natur og Ungdom's English page on Repparfjord. Natur og Ungdom (Nature and Youth) has led the protest camps and civil disobedience at the fjord, and their page explains in a few paragraphs what the mine would do and where the campaign stands now.
The environmental case against dumping mine waste in the fjord is documented by Naturvernforbundet i Finnmark (Friends of the Earth Norway, Finnmark branch). Their page gathers formal complaints against the permits, research on salmon and fish, press coverage and documentary films made between 2013 and 2022. In Norwegian.
Indigenous Struggle
You can also read the case study by the Swiss NGO Voices, Planned copper mines threaten the Sámi culture. It covers the two planned mines, Nussir and Ulveryggen, the lack of free, prior and informed consent, and the banks and investors behind the project.
In 2020 the Sámi Parliament commissioned an analysis of the mines' impact on reindeer herding, written by Stiftelsen Protect Sápmi. It maps the calving grounds, spring pastures and migration routes of the Fiettar and Fála districts that the mine would cut through. In Norwegian (PDF).

Other ways of mapping
KÁRTA, by 70°N Arkitektur, is an artistic counter-mapping of eco-grief, care and connection. It documents testimonies from and beyond Repparfjord, and has been a great inspiration for the development of this platform as a living archive.
Follow the struggle
The campaign posts news from the fjord, calls to action and solidarity events on Instagram at @reddrepparfjord (Redd Repparfjord, Save Repparfjord).
